Located on the Chena River in Downtown Fairbanks, we can accommodate a variety of small and mid-sized events. World class exhibits, cultural and natural history films in a 100 seat high-definition theatre, Alaska Native music, dance, storytelling, artist demonstrations and “Taste of Alaska” meals can add a unique flair to your meeting or reception.

Spaces Available for Rent

Lobby: High ceiling, expansive windows, granite, wood and slate finishes provide an impressive space for a memorable event. To make your evening even more special, the exhibit gallery will be opened exclusively for your guests. Podium, microphone/sound-system, table and chairs are available by request. Maximum capacity is 200 people. While light refreshments can be served, food-based events are not allowed in the lobby or exhibit areas.

Theatre: Excellent venue for films, performances, slide shows, lectures and presentations. Large stage for multiple presenters/performers. High-definition projector for DVD’s, BlueRay, VHS or powerpoint presentation is available with an additional set-up fee. Capacity 100.

Classroom: Bright space with 12 classroom tables, chairs, sink, two countertops, phone, whiteboard, screen, podium. Capacity:  In a classroom style, seats 24 at the tables with 15 additional guest chairs. In a board room style, seats 32 around a rectangular table setting, with an additional 11 guest chairs. Seats 40 theatre style.

Conference Room: A professional setting for your business meeting. Windows and a private deck overlook the Chena River. Capacity is 18 around the conference table with an additional 10 guest chairs.

Elders’ Hall: Intimate octagonal shaped hall surrounded by beautiful works of Athabascan art. Small stage, projector for powerpoint or DVD’s & soundsystem is available. Capacity is 20 maximum.

Availability

Due to our extended summer hours, the Lobby, Theatre and the Exhibit Hall are not available for private events mid-May through mid-September.  Private events held in the Lobby, Theatre or the Exhibit Hall during Winter hours can begin no sooner than 5:30 p.m. to allow for appropriate set-up time.

The Classroom, Conference Room and Elders’ Hall can be booked year-round, and can be scheduled when the Center is open or after-hours.

Catering

Food and beverages may be served in all meeting areas except the theatre. If your event is open to the public, contact the Morris Thompson Center for a list of pre-approved caterers. For private events, you may make your own arrangements for food. All catering costs are separate from your space rental fee and should be made directly with your selected caterer.

Alcoholic beverages can be served. Restrictions apply.

A deposit fee is required to officially reserve your space.

Please Note:

  • The Morris Thompson Center is handicapped accessible.
  • Ample free parking is available surrounding the Center. (100+ parking spaces)
  • Smoking, exposed or concealed weapons, and public intoxication is strictly prohibited in the facility.
