Beading, Tufting, Porcupine Quill Work with Emma Hildebrand
October 19, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until October 20, 2019

Emma Hildebrand was born in Northway and raised in a semi-subsistence lifestyle. Her Koyukon Athabascan mother taught her to bead and skin sew from the age of seven. She was selected Miss WEIO in 1981 in a moosehide parka with beadwork and beaver fur trim that was her first major project that took a full year to complete. She earned a Business Administration degree from UAF in 1986 and returned to Northway where she was CEO of Northway’s Native corporation for 17 years. These days, making and selling native crafts is her main livelihood and passion. Emma enjoys teaching others the cultural knowledge, artistry and craftsmanship that was passed down to her. In this twoday workshop, Emma will teach how to make designs with porcupine quills, caribou hair tufting and simple beadwork. Students can chose to do a barrette or a small scissor case. No beadwork experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided, though please bring your own thimble and sharp scissors.
