Emma Hildebrand was born in Northway and raised in a semi-subsistence lifestyle. Her Koyukon Athabascan mother taught her to bead and skin sew from the age of seven. She was selected Miss WEIO in 1981 in a moosehide parka with beadwork and beaver fur trim that was her first major project that took a full year to complete. She earned a Business Administration degree from UAF in 1986 and returned to Northway where she was CEO of Northway’s Native corporation…
